Dobson suggests that Pead's first game will likely take place on October 10th against the Sharks at Cape Town Stadium.
“But no, I think for the Sharks at home... We also want more time to train with him. There’s not much we could do to get him integrated, and nine is a big role that takes a bit of work. So I think only the week after.”
Meanwhile, loosehead prop Ntuthuko Mchunu is currently on a break due to Springbok rest protocols and recent fatherhood.
“Ntuks gets his three weeks’ rest. He’s just had a baby as well, so he needs to spend some time at home with the child,” Dobson said.
Bok utility forward Ben-Jason Dixon, while traveling with the team, continues to struggle with delayed concussion symptoms stemming from a match in Buenos Aires. “BJ is still battling with a little bit of delayed concussion from the Argentina Test, the one in Buenos Aires, so that’s a bit of a blow.”
Dobson expressed optimism that, with no further setbacks, both Mchunu and Dixon could be ready for the following week’s clash against Edinburgh. As for team adjustments, hooker JJ Kotze will not be playing due to family commitments, but Vernon Paulo, after impressive performances in the Currie Cup, has been selected as a replacement. Dobson is also excited about Ezekiel Ngobeni, who could see his first URC action, providing additional cover on the wing.
This restructuring underscored by new and returning talent shapes a dynamic period for the Stormers as they navigate the early stages of the United Rugby Championship, balancing the integration of new players with managing the health and well-being of their seasoned athletes.
