From the outset, anxiety was palpable as both teams entered the fray with early jitters. However, the Bok Women showcased a solid scrum performance that increased in potency throughout the match. Their lineout had its moments of inconsistency, yet they succeeded in snatching some crucial possessions from their opponents.
The scoreboard lit up 14 minutes into the game when lock Catha Jacobs, leveraging a robust run from No 8 Aseza Hele off an attacking scrum, landed the first try of the match. Fullback Jakkie Cilliers followed up with a successful conversion, pushing the South Africans to a 7-0 lead.
Building on this momentum, Cilliers extended the lead further by slotting a penalty at the 30-minute mark, making it 10-0 by halftime. The Bok Women maintained their pressure in the second half, with Hele bulldozing through for another try early on, although the conversion from Cilliers went awry this time.
It wasn't until past the hour mark that more points were put on the board. A Spanish player received a yellow card for repeated infringements, providing enough room for Cilliers to score a try in the corner after another hearty attacking sequence. Despite a missed conversion, the South African side's defense remained unbreachable, ensuring no comeback from Spain.
The relentless tackling and strategic groundwork laid by the pack were crucial in sealing this clean-sheet victory for the Springbok Women, ending the WXV tour on a high note with impressive back-to-back wins.
