“I don’t think Paul is a guy who can play hooker. He can throw in very well at lineouts, but he doesn’t quite have the size for hooker [1.80m and 101kg"

"Paul can certainly help out at lineout time. I think he can become more of a hybrid player like André Esterhuizen, who can play No 6 and No 12, rather than being developed into a hybrid player who plays No 6 and hooker.”

Does Roos for 12 still sound like something Rassie would never try?

Well at least we have established the link between 6 and 12 is not just accommodating a unique case with Esterhozen. But if you were trying to build that hybrid, Roos seems much more suited to 12 than PdV

Roos would be an inferior version of Delande.

Makes no sense that he says Paul is too small for hooker yet he selects Fourie as a hooker who is the same size as Paul

The Fourie thing is some Rassie mind voodoo.

I mean, it's inspiring and all, but really it's a bit of a gimmick. And what does it say to Grobbies? To me, between he and Wessels you have two excellent understudies for Marx but they barely get a chance.

@Plum not to mention Andre Hugo Venter who could be the best of the 3 understudies and is effectively Rassie’s son in law

For goodness sake Rassie, play a guy in his intended position. Why is Rassie always on a mission to play his players out of position??

We have very good hookers available and very good inside centres. Paul de Villiers is a good openside not a hooker, end of story.

Roos is not an impactful eighthman. He runs like a crazy person with his red face into contact, but doesn't gain much ground. Or he runs away from his support.

He should start playing openside flanker where he can focus on linking with the backline and use his speed. One skill he still needs to learn is fetching.

That being said, I don't think Rassie is very keen on selecting him. I might be wrong, and i hope that for him, but I think it's over.

Yes, Dave would agree. He just loves that idea. 🤣 One thing is certain, he would make a big inside centre at 109 kg. DDA, eat your heart out.
